ACCEPTING new client consults in February 2025
As a relational therapist with eclectic tendencies, I specialize in working with individuals, couples, polycules, and groups who are navigating challenges within their relationships.
I address a range of issues including relationship ambivalence, anxiety, neurodiversity, life transitions, depression, feeling stuck, trauma, and various aspects of relationship counseling such as pre-marital dynamics, transitions, disconnection, communication issues, infidelity, infertility, and blended family struggles.
I also specialize in supporting polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships (both consensual and ethical), including open, non-monogamous, poly, or designer relationships. Additionally, I focus on improving communication, resolving recurring conflicts, and addressing emotional infidelity.
I am particularly attuned to the concerns of marginalized communities, including first generational professionals, LGBTQIAP+ individuals, People of Color, and Sexual Minorities — kinky folks!
My approach emphasizes building awareness of thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations to foster greater insight and empower clients to make informed choices within and outside of their relationships.
In therapy, I provide a nurturing, supportive, and interactive environment grounded in common sense. I prioritize creating safety and trust in our therapeutic relationship, allowing us to explore and process issues that may feel inaccessible or overwhelming alone or within your relationships.
My ultimate goal as your therapist is to help you discover your strengths, heal past wounds, cultivate fulfilling relationships, and lead a life filled with meaning and purpose, both within yourself and in your connections with others.
If you're ready to embark on a journey towards more satisfying relationships, healing, self-understanding, and personal growth, please reach out. I look forward to supporting you on this path.

I have a deep passion for travel, reflection, and spending quality time with loved ones. I cherish moments in our historic Bolton Hill home, time spent expanding our therapy practice in Baltimore’s Historic Mount Vernon, and bonding with our SPCA pit-mix, Uma, and our “fancy” pigeon, Saffron.
With a background as a flight attendant, I’ve had the privilege of exploring numerous destinations worldwide, including Japan, Portugal, Dubai, and London. My particular fondness for India has further enriched my perspective, deepening my appreciation for diversity and enhancing my understanding of multiculturalism across various stages of life, as well as within community and family systems.
In 2015, I founded Space Between Counseling Services after spending a decade working in Baltimore City Public Schools. As an active member of a creative, queer, and ambiamorous community, I bring a unique perspective to my therapeutic work.
I deeply understand that life can be filled with struggle—sometimes overwhelming amounts. In 2022, I faced profound loss within my family of origin due to suicide(s). Therefore, I have a deep understanding of the impacts of grief, family burdens, and the roles played by those who break the cycle within families.
I also understand firsthand that, with the right guidance, places of pain, difficulty, and doubt can be transformed through therapy into powerful opportunities for growth and transformation.
My therapeutic approach emphasizes client-centered care and active listening. I strive to balance self-exploration with practical solutions, creating a safe and trusting environment where meaningful change can occur. I view therapy as both an art and a science, valuing the creative process that underpins it.

TELL ME ABOUT FEES AND INSURANCE?
Susan’s individual fee is $275 per 60-minute intake and 45-minute session; Susan’s couple’s fee is $650 per 2-3 hour intake and $425 per 90-minute follow-up session. Brainspotting fee: $425 / 90-minute session
SBCS is not paneled with any insurance plans but can offer you what's called "out-of-network" (OON) benefits. Not everyone has this as part of their benefits package, so please call your healthcare plan and ask these questions:
Do I have out-of-network benefits?
What percentage of my therapist's fee does my plan pay for?
MOST OON BENEFIT PLANS PAY BETWEEN 50-90% OF MY FEE.
At times, insurance plans request upfront billing codes SBCS will be using. You can share this list of codes for their approval:
90791 Psychiatric Diagnostic Assessment (from 1-4 sessions depending on the problem)
90834 Psychotherapy, 45 minutes
90847 Family Psychotherapy, conjoint psychotherapy with patient present
90846 Family Psychotherapy, without patient present
90887 Collateral visit
When using OON benefits, SBCS will provide you with a document called a 'superbill' each month, which is like an invoice but contains the service codes, dates of treatment, and monies paid during therapy. You would submit this to your plan directly and your plan would reimburse you directly as well.
You can get in-network therapy if this is outside your budget. Your plan can identify providers who are in-network should you need to use your benefits.
HOW ARE MY RECORDS STORED?
Space Between Counseling Services utilizes a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted electronic medical record system called SimplePractice that holds all of my clients' mental health records securely. You will receive a link to a client portal where you can fill in demographic information and access documents like invoices and superbills on your own.
SimplePractice has a credit card processing system named Stripe embedded in it. If choosing to work with SBCS you would upload your credit card number and SBCS would tap the card after each session or late cancellation for the fee. SBCS only have access to the last 4 digits of your card and it is completely secured.
DO YOU HAVE A CANCElLATION POLICY?
At Space Between Counseling Services, we have a 24-business-hour cancellation policy. You will be responsible for an entire session fee if the change is made in less than 24-business-hours' notice. Exceptions may be made for emergencies such as sudden illness or accident, at my discretion. It should be noted that insurance does not reimburse for canceled sessions and HSA and FSA cards can't be used in these cases.
