Why Supervision?
Skilled supervisors play a crucial role in the development and success of emerging therapists for several compelling reasons. First and foremost, these supervisors bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, which is invaluable for guiding novice therapists through the intricacies of their profession. Whether it's understanding complex therapeutic techniques, navigating ethical dilemmas, or managing challenging client situations, skilled supervisors can provide insights and practical advice that emerging therapists might not have gained through their education alone. This mentorship and guidance help emerging therapists build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills, ultimately enhancing their ability to provide effective and ethical care to their clients.
Furthermore, experienced supervisors can help emerging therapists gain confidence in their abilities. The early stages of a therapist's career can be fraught with self-doubt and uncertainty. A skilled supervisor who can offer constructive feedback, encouragement, and validation can significantly boost an emerging therapist's self-esteem and competence. This support can be instrumental in preventing burnout and attrition in the field, as it fosters a sense of professional identity and belonging within the therapy community.
Lastly, skilled supervisors serve as a vital means of quality assurance in the field of therapy. They ensure that emerging therapists adhere to ethical guidelines, maintain high standards of care, and continually strive for professional development. By holding emerging therapists accountable and guiding them towards best practices, these supervisors contribute to the overall well-being of clients and the reputation of the profession. In this way, they act as gatekeepers, upholding the integrity and credibility of the field of therapy, which benefits not only the therapists themselves but also the clients they serve.

Clinician Testimonials
“There are people that enter your life and make a significant impact. My supervisor at Space Between Counseling Services, has done just that. She has pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone and grow as a clinician. She has shown me patience, assertiveness, and the importance of self-care. To have a supervisor care about you as a person more so than a clinician is an amazing feeling. Thank you Susan for being a great mentor early on in my career...and for the hilarious things you say.”
